Summer pudding... I'd never had it before and I'm told Ann's an expert at making it. It certainly looked good, smelt amazing and tasted delicious (smothered in cream of course!) The flower photos are of Ann's orchid in the kitchen. I loved the glittery effect that the lights made on the petals.

Badgers!!!
|
|
The highlight of my trip to stay with Ann & John...
For the last 5 years Ann & I have been trying to coordinate one of my visit's to them with badger watching. They live across the road from a small nature reserve with a hide you can book to watch badgers. We'd never been able to get it sorted and I'd never seen an European badger... We managed to sort it this time and we got a good night - NINE badgers, TWO foxes, THREE mice and LOTS of rabbits!
It was an incredible experience, we were so close to them we could hear them eating (they put out food). There is a light over the spot with the food and the animals have become accustomed to it. Taking photos was a challenge, flashes weren't allowed and all I could see was vague white stripes from their faces. Thanks to photoshopping I've managed to end up with a decent collection!

Cambridge
|
|
On Saturday Ann & John took me to Cambridge, I'd never been before so it was all new to me. We went to the Templar Chapel, Kings College Chapel, along the Backs and then finished off at the Fitzwilliam Museum. Photo taking was prohibited in Kings College Chapel and in the Fitzwilliam so these are mainly outside pictures from walking around Cambridge.
We went to see the Illuminated Manuscripts exhibition at the Fitzwilliam and it was really fascinating. They're in the process of restoring the Macclesfield Psalter and have sections of that on display. The Macclesfield Psalter was made around 1330 and is quite a work of art. The detail is incredible, especially at the scale which it's done. In photos of the illustrations you never realise how small it is - there were portraits with expressions done in spaces the same size as my thumb nail... incredible!

Tewin Church
|
|
I arrived at Ann & John's late on Thursday, just in time for dinner On Friday Ann was doing flowers for a wedding with a friend so I had a lie in then John and I met up with her. I had a bit of time to take some photos around Tewin Church before we went for coffee. The afternoon was a chilled affair, resting so that we could be wide awake for the badgers... photos of that are in another post!
A few details on what's in here:
Millenium tapestries: for the millenium, people in Tewin did tapestries for kneelers illustrating things in and around Tewin. Apparently it's the only church where you find pictures of bombers!
Bequest: in 1787 a lady left a bequest of GBP200 and said that the interest should be used to beautify her husbands grave each year. The leftovers, amounting to an estimated GBP20 where to be used for making clothes for the poor boys of Tewin!
Memorials: many of these young men who were killed were the same age (within a year or two) of my grandpa.
Brass Memorial: Thomas Pygott, died 11th January 1610... and it's still there today, covered with felt and a piece of carpet so it doesn't get worn away... wow!

Yet another transfer day! But this one with a visit in the middle... Wednesday night was back in Norwich, Thursday I was off to Tewin to visit my 3rd set of grandparents (family friends who have been 'adopted' as grandparents). On the way I went through London and met up with my godmother Susie for lunch. Pizza Express... oh yummy
We had a little photo session, she's also got a digital camera... I'm not alone in the world of taking lots of photos!!! There was no-one else around so we did the self-timer thing... lots of laughs

Wentworth Garden Centre - Pet Shop
|
|
Sarah and I headed back to Norwich late afternoon. First we went with Grandma to Wentworth Garden Centre for a stroll and lunch. I already posted the flower photos from this excursion so here are the pet shop ones. Sarah was watching the fish and Grandma the birds so I got up close and took a few photos...
Fred is from the gift shop, not the pet shop

Me & Grandma

|
After dashing back from Milton Keynes on the train, the next day was driving up to Yorkshire with my sister to see Grandma. She moved last October so it was the first time I'd visited her new place... thankfully Sarah knew where it was
We had a chatty afternoon with lots of photo viewing and a couple of tv programs. Sarah and I took a ricotta and sweetcorn lasagne for dinner which turned out really yummy It was a new recipe and was definitely worth the experiment! We spent the rest of the evening playing cards.
I spent the night on the sofa which is a sofa-bed but rather different to the traditional... the arms flatten out to make a single bed - much easier to change and just as comfortable!
