Another source of photos... patterns in and on the water and reflections from the water...

I recently took some that were similar to these. I will be posting them soon, but don't get too excited -- yours are better. Wed 27-Jul-2005 20:40

Hampton Court Fence

View all 9 photos...
While I was on the boat we spent one night moored up outside Hampton Court. For a few minutes the skies went really dark grey making the gold on the fence and gates really stand out. It's probably the most intricate fence I've ever seen, each panel has a different central pattern.

Geez...That's a good idea for a fence....

Macros from the boat

Although the motion of the boat meant that the macro function on my camera didn't get full usage, the walks with Rosie meant that I could play with it a bit

Moving on from the birds...

Lois & Chris are friends of mine, originally friends of my mum. They took early retirement a few years ago, had a narrow boat built to their specifications and now live on the canals... Not a bad life! I went to spend 3 nights with them whilst they were on the Thames. We got really lucky with some absolutely stunning weather, blue skies and high temperatures the whole time - lovely!

The boat is really cool, it's 60ft long and I've forgotten how wide but it fits a bed widthwise... not much space... They've managed to find room for everything though including a bath!!! On the roof Lois has a veggie garden... lettuces, broccoli and herbs all in big tubs... yummy We had some really great salads! I first went to stay with them over 2 years ago when they hadn't been on the boat for long, that time I had to take a sleeping bag... this time they've got some really funky armchairs that clip together and flatten out into a double bed! Very smart

Rosie looks to be enjoying herself Thu 21-Jul-2005 21:15

I remember seeing canal houseboats when were in Europe, but have never seen them in the U.S. I think they are very interesting and good-looking vessels.... Wed 27-Jul-2005 20:43

Swans: a bit larger than ducks and not quite as common so not quite so many photos of them... It was quite incredible how close they would come even though I wasn't offering food though I think at some point a couple might have thought that my camera would make good eating The close ups here weren't even taken with a zoom...

great shots Fri 15-Jul-2005 23:02

View all 33 photos...
After Bristol I joined some friends on a canal boat for three nights for a really lazy time Being so close to the water it was very easy to take photos of lots and lots of things!

This first set from the boat is dedicated to the ducks who spent hours hanging around waiting for me to feed them whilst I was just taking photos of them... thanks guys!! All shapes and sizes of ducks with some amazing colours, I really enjoyed photographing them, hope you enjoy looking at the photos!

wonderful shots! i LOVE ducks. they are so cute.

thanks for the link. have a nice day!

Castle Coombe & the Avon Gorge Hotel

Pete, Anna & I
We had lunch in a pub with VERY low ceilings
Pimms...

The problem with updating in bulk is that it's easy to get the dates mixed up... I did that last time so now everything is out of sequence... oh well!

These photos are from my last weekend in Bristol, Anna's parents came down on the Saturday and we went for a walk at Castle Coombe. Before our walk we went for lunch at an old pub, the food was great, a ploughmans with real cheddar There were some really low ceilings as well! We went slightly wrong on the walk, took a few wrong turns and had to do some bundu bashing through nettles which wasn't too fun but we made it to the end... unfortunately too late for ice creams We went home for Pimms and dinner instead!

In the evening there was a concert near Anna & Pete's flat and we had a good view of the fireworks. Anna and I sat with cameras and took loads of pictures but space necessitates me being choosy here On Sunday we all went to the Avon Gorge Hotel for drinks before Anna's parents dropped me off with my next set of friends on their way home. The weather was incredible, real summer!!! It was 30degC when we were leaving Bristol...

I think you're cute. Wed 27-Jul-2005 20:44
