Cornwall in the sun

The morning view
Patterns of planes
A deserted beach!
View all 15 photos...
Day 2 of the Cornwall trip was much much better, much more like summer! We woke up cooking in the tents because the sun was shining and the sky was blue We all headed down to the beach but Anna, Pete & I decided to walk further down the beach, away from all the crazy crowds and screaming children. In fact, we managed to find such a peaceful place that we ended up sleeping for four hours rather than doing anything else! Probably just what we needed!

I love beaches!!!! u got me with this shots!!!! nice set! nice blue shades!!! nice sufboards!!! Fri 8-Jul-2005 14:22

Cornwall in the rain

Table Mountain?
Rain... not good for a camping weekend...
Rain... Not good for the beach!

After arriving and dancing on Friday, Saturday morning I was up at 7:30 to pack for Cornwall. A whole crowd of people from Pete's work were going for a surfing weekend and Anna & Pete invited me to go along with them.

Day 1 was not all that fantastic as it was raining and FREEZING! Not much warmer than Cape Town and it's supposed to be summer here... We spent some time on the beach in the rain then went back to the campsite. The sun came out for a few hours giving us a chance to dry out which was nice!

oh you lucky girl, you're on holiday in the UK
I am out of the hospital after spinal surgery, and try to walk rigid like an oldfashioned officer
I wish you lots of good times

Well those of you who have heard me talk will know that I can talk for hours and hours enthusiastically about "dancing", more properly known as Le Roc (or ceroc or modern jive or french jive). One of the bonuses about coming back to England for a while was the opportunity to put my dancing shoes back on again for a while

I landed at 6:30am in the morning, had breakfast in London, got a train to Bristol, had lunch with a friend, had two hours sleep and went to the 2005 South West LeRoc Challenge... I hadn't slept much, I'd travelled a lot, I hadn't danced in a year so I figured I'd mainly watch and take photos, just dance a few songs... good intentions I sat out perhaps 10 dances max... I danced for over 3 hours... I did my first dance competition!!!!!!!!!!

The South West LeRoc Challenge is basically what it says it is, a big competition for dancers from the South West of England (and people from Wales as well). Most couples had been practising for a while... I ended up doing it as a last minute decision with a guy who's partner who had dropped out at the last minute... We figured we'd do it for a laugh, have some fun and not get far past the first heats... We went from the first heats straight to the finals!!!!!!!!!! We didn't get placed in the end as they only placed the top 4 out of the 6 couples in the final but it was really great fun Here are some of the photos... The ones of Nick & I were taken by other people for obvious reasons, the rest are my own

Really cool Helen. One never really looses your flare or ability to dance - well done. Cant wait to meet someone who could take me dancing - I really do crave it sometimes. Fri 8-Jul-2005 19:46

Having dogs and a cat around is an endless source of amusement. This was the story that I watched just after breakfast this morning.

It all
started with
a pine cone
View all 9 photos...
Well it all started out quite normally with photographing a pine cone in the slip of sunshine coming through the window. Then I got a bit bored with the pine cone and moved on to other things...

Mandu's big, open eye is fun.... Fri 17-Jun-2005 19:48

What can possibly be better than inviting a friend for dinner and him cooking it himself... Steve came over for dinner last night and cooked up a storm... a big soup and bread and salad followed by a puff pastry and apple and orange pudding... oh yummy! I'm going to be eating leftovers for a few days as well

Thanks Steve!!

That's a good one, invite a friend to cook dinner for you! Thu 16-Jun-2005 17:18

The dogs came to visit me the other day... thing is I know they didn't come out of love - the real reason was far too obvious!

More lessons from the garden

Determination
Perserverance
Persistence
This little tree was caught in the flood when the river came down last week. It was bending and flapping around but stayed put.
