Sunday 9th July 2006

I got a bit of a lie in I skipped the parade but went along for the jumping at 10 o'clock.

Third day of the Interbranch Pony Club competition at the Shongweni Club in Durban.

International team show jumping class.

The main event of the show for the Kenyan girls - the team competition. 1 Kenyan team, 1 Botswanan team and 2 South African teams. The South Africans, being on their own horses (which were rather fancy and experienced), unsurprisingly took 1st and 2nd place. A South African girl, Keira, rode for the Kenyan team in order to make up their numbers. The Kenyans and the Botswanans did put up a good fight!

well done Helen Wed 12-Jul-2006 20:17

Friday 7th July 2006

I was up at 4am to get to the airport in time to get to Durban in time to watch my sister riding...

First day of the Interbranch Pony Club competition at the Shongweni Club in Durban.

Individual show jumping class.

The Kenyan riders: Sarah, Jemma and Katy. The fall... my sister... she, myself and Shirley (the Kenyan Chef d'Equipe) ended up at A&E for 4 hours. Sarah spent all my money on x-rays and found out she was just badly bruised. She spent the rest of the show severely drugged up on pain killers but refused to stop riding!

CONGRATULATIONS to my sister!!!!

Me and Sarah in Kenya (November 2005)
Leap for your dreams
Detail of the horse
My sister Sarah has been selected to ride for Kenya!!!!! She's coming down to South Africa in July to compete!!!!!

WELL DONE!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! IT'S BRILLIANT!!!!

Now I've just got to figure out how I'm going to get down to watch her

The photos of the horse are a cushion I made her for her 18th birthday (last November, but I only just finished it). It's a crazy quilted cushion, bordered in hessian. The horse was satin stitched and took several many hours

Nice cushion..... Mon 19-Jun-2006 11:24

The last 5 days of my stay in England I spent in Bristol, catching up with friends

2 nights with Michael and James, dinner at Planet Pizza - 6 out of 10 of the original housemates!

A 2 hour ride with Anna (some of my muscles are still sore!) followed by 2 nights with her and Pete.

A really nice holiday to end my trip

My mum's party continued on the Saturday. I skipped out on the afternoon to go to Wells with my uncle, grandma and two cousins to.... fly my kite

We don't have tides on the U.S.'s Great Lakes, and I haven't really experienced any place that has such a noticable flux in water levels. I find it fascinating! It would be an amazing time for discovery if the Lake Michigan water level suddenly fell twenty feet -- there has a be a lot of stuff down on the lake bottom! Wed 5-Jul-2006 20:19

The cake...

A mess in the dining room while I found the pictures for icing
Happy Birthday ;o)
A lot of friends!

I ended up making the cake for the party... vegan chocolate cake to serve 150 people

It took me several hours, not helped by a three and a half hour power cut in the middle! I ended up having to go to a friend's house to finish baking the last 4 cakes. Each cake was covered in melted chocolate (green and blacks of course!) and then I iced them all. My grandpa (my mum's dad) was a baker and cake decorator so that meant quite a bit to her. And I got to use his icing tubes

The theme of the whole week (and three day party!!) seemed to be my mother's enormous collection of friends so I themed the cake the same. 50 years of making friends and a cake for each of the places she's lived. One of the cool things... each place except for Asmara was represented by someone at the party!

I like the elefant's butt!! Mon 19-Jun-2006 11:19

I was just looking at a map of Wells, and see that it is very close to where my family originated nearly 100 years ago: Brighton. Like you would care.... Wed 5-Jul-2006 20:23
